Domesticating a wild edible Oyster mushroom strain from Goa's western ghats

From pure culture to cultivation we were successful in domesticating Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster mushroom) species from Goa's western ghats. It is an excellent outdoor , pathogen resistant, photosensitive strain.

Termitomyces petaloides intact fruitbody ten days after growth with stunted primordium

It is remarkable that the fruitbody which emerged on December 10 remained intact even after 10 days and became dessicated. The smaller primordium could not further differentiate and withered. Actually these species decompose rapidly during the monsoon.

• Maximum numbers of samples were collected from bondla, bondir and the least from Verlem, Netravali, Nanora and Mollem.
• Marasmius, Ganoderma, Termitomyces were found to be the most dominant genera followed by Coltricia, Daedalea, Trametes and Stereum.
• Out of 169 samples 48 basidiomycetes were successfully cultured and maintained, these were Amanita sp. (bs-11), novel species of Scleroderma (bs-37), Termitomyces albuminosus (bs-51), unidentified cup fungus (bs-37), Auriculariopsis sp.(bs-64), Omphalotus sp. (bs-71), Hygrocybe sp. (BA-19), Bolbitius sp. (BA-36), Xerula radicata (BA-37), Termitomyces striatus (Ba-43), Daedalia quercina (BA-45), Pleurotus osteratus var. Goanensis (BA-50), Stereum sp.
